Raquel’s Wild Rice with Cranberries & Mango Salad

by jamie on December 2, 2008

I was bored the other day at lunch with the usual salad bar at the market near work so I tried this Wild Rice with Cranberries & Mango Salad made by Raquel’s: http://www.quonghop.com/products/default.htm (only website equivalent I’ve been able to find). It looked fresh and colorful through the plastic container so I thought why not?

On the label, it gives me a couple random nutrition facts, cholesterol free, non-dairy, and no preservatives - great, but does it taste good?

In my opinion, it was just ok. Its definitely a little on the sweeter side - I think they could’ve skimped a little more on the orange juice and apple cider vinegar or maybe just opted for one or the other - and its a little on the pricey side for the amount you’re actually given (seems like it should’ve been two days worth of food rather than one). Overall, I would recommend it especially for people who are more keen on cranberries and orange juice than I am.

When I looked on the site, one thing I liked about Raquel’s products is that they are local (made in South San Francisco) and they all seem to be vegetarian foods. I realized after poking around on the site that I’ve tried Raquel’s hummus before - I just didn’t realize it was the same company because the packaging was so different. I’ll have to give the hummus another go before I can fairly review it here.

Two things I dislike about Raquel’s - their lack of a proper website (unless I somehow just missed it?) and they didn’t list any nutrition facts on this particular product (I’m sure they have it on the hummus though).
