Eating Out San Francisco: A16

by jamie on January 18, 2009

Bryan and I had a lot to celebrate on Saturday night and decided to go out for a nice dinner at A16 - the food, wine and whole experience was delicious. My favorite part of the meal (besides the Feduccio Montepulciano carafe of wine) was the roasted sunchokes and cipolline with pecorino and wild arugula starter- YUM! Before last night, I had never had or heard of a sunchoke but now I am totally hooked. When prepared they kind of look and taste a little like potatoes and when we found them at Whole Foods, were surprised to find tha they look a lot like Ginger but much softer. Of course, I am now inspired to cook with them and will be posting a recipe sometime later this week.

We also ordered the pumpkin and ricotta gnocchi with kale, red onions, pancetta and pecorino (and somehow, maybe because of all the wine consumed, we didn’t realize it had pancetta). Our server was really awesome about it, and took it back and made it vegetarian for us. And, it was delicious! We also shared my favorite pizza - the funghi pizza with an egg - if you’ve never had an egg on your pizza, I insist you try it.
