Eating Out San Francisco: Mamacita’s

by jamie on February 26, 2009

Tonight, we went out to eat at Mamacita’s on Chestnut St. with our friends Lizzy and Peter.  I hadn’t been there in awhile and it was probably more delicious than I remember (maybe it had something to do with the company).  The second best thing about Mamacita’s besides the guac, has to be the location.  Its a block from our apartment.  So even though we were late getting off work, we had plenty of time to get our asses there.  Plus, there are a surprising number of good options for veggies.

Tonight, we ordered the chips, salsa and guac (duh).  I really think Mamacita’s has some of the best guac in town.  And for dinner, we chose the jicama y toronja salad.  For you gringos, that’s basically a salad with jicama blood oranges, arugula, candied peanuts, and cilantro.  It was really good!  What I love about Mamacita’s is that everything is super fresh and served on small plates so you don’t feel like you just ate a person when you leave.  We also had the enchiladas de calabaza which are filled with butternut squash and goat cheese (two of my very favorite things!) and they were surprising really flavorful.

If you’re Marina bound and craving Mexican food, this is the place to be just as long as you don’t mind dining next to a popped collar douche bag.
