The other night, Bryan and I decided to try out Mezes, a greek restaurant next door to our apartment in the Marina. Its strange because in the three or so years that I’ve lived in my neighborhood, I’ve never eaten there, always walking past on my way to A16 or Mamacita’s. All I can say is, I was missing out!
From the outside, Mezes doesn’t look like much. But once inside, you immediately feel at home. It has a very cozy atmosphere and a great upstairs area where if you snag the right table, you have a great view of all the passersby on Chestnut. The service was also really friendly and attentive but not overly so.
As for the food, I can’t say enough great things. Not only was it tapas style which I love but they also have a huge list of vegetarian options!! It was hard to decide but everything we ordered was fantastic. I think my favorite overall had to be Gigantes, which were these amazing white beans in tomatoes and herbs. YUM! The zucchini cakes were my second favorite - I really want to try making them at home. We also got the pan seared cheese (which we have made at home) and the dolmathes (grape leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts and raisins). And lastly, the wine list was incredible. They have an assortment of Greek and non-Greek wines available.
