Tea: Ice it Up!

If you love tea but can’t take the summer sizzle, make your own iced teaIced Tea from your favorite loose leaf or tea pouches.  One thing I learned when making my own iced teas at home, is to to double up on tea bags.  Adding an extra tea bag often helps you get the right amount of flavor and helps you avoid that watered down taste.  Another key thing to remember is to let your tea steep for the right amount of time and to let it cool to room temperature before adding the ice.  According to Mighty Leaf Tea, these are the proper brew times for the following teas: black tea: 4 minutes, green tea for 3 minutes, and herbals for 5 minutes.

One of my very favorite iced tea recipes is using Guayaki’s Yerba Matte loose leaaf tea in my french press and adding a little splash of Silk vanilla soy milk.  It creates a strong, spicy iced tea that is the perfect substitute for morning coffee.

Here are some other great iced tea recipes from Mighty Leaf Tea using either the Orange Dulce black tea or the Marrakesh Mint green tea (my personal favorite):

Brewing Instructions:

Portion: one Tea pouch per 16 oz glass of iced tea (I would use two!)

  • Pour 6 oz. water over tea pouch: Black tea should be at 195 degrees; green tea should be at 15-180 degrees
  • Brew Orange Dulce for 5 minutes or Marrakesh Mint for 3 minutes
  • Let it Cool to room temperature and remove tea bag
  • Pour it over 10 oz. of ice
  • Enjoy
