The Day My Blender Almost Died…

by jamie on July 7, 2009

The end of a vacation almost always sucks.  Last night it was especially hard; the realization that it was OVER was sinking in as I  set the alarm for my early gym date, and realized I wouldn’t  be able to use the ocean as my bathtub in the morning or salt and humidity as an excuse for wild hair.  And to rub it in even more, instead of waking up to the sounds of surf, I heard a car alarm go off and bums chatting about their latest trash can discovery in the Walgreen’s parking lot.  Oh, home sweet home.

I knew that I had to get myself back in the grind and out of vacation mode quickly so got up for my early morning gym routine.   All through my workout, all I could think about was how good my breakfast smoothie was going to taste.  I was more or less patting myself on the back for having fruit leftover from our airplane snacks given our fridge was still post-vacation empty.

And just as I start to blend, poof, my trusty old blender dies.  It starts making this strange whizzing noise, and the blades just stop.  I swear, I almost cried.  I picked it up and much to my dismay I discovered the little rubber thingy that helps the blades spin was fried.  And all I was left with was a chunky liquidy nasty mess.  Needless to say, this was not a good start to my first day back…Crazy, broken, damaged blender

On our way to the bus, Bryan tried to reassure me that the parts were easy to find at appliance parts stores.  I glared at him and said, “yeah right, like those places actually exist!  Appliance parts stores?  Hmmph.  We’ll have to buy a whole new blender!”

Well, Bryan was right.  He found my piece and it will be here in about two days.  I think I can survive that long.  If you’re ever in a situation like this, post vacation or not, check out the Mending Shed.   They actually do sell appliance parts and can ship them out pretty fast.  You can even check out my blender rubber thingy here: http://mendingshed.stores.yahoo.net/index.html.

Exciting, I know.

Oh man, I hate it when that happens! Blender malfunctions are the worst! If you ever need any smoothie recipes, tips or anything else, you should check out my site: http://theblenderdiaries.com/. I think you’ll love it! :)

But, seriously, glad you were able to find the part and hope that your blender is up and running shortly.

A broken blender is a surefire source for the morning grumpies. I had no idea you could just replace parts - way to be a resourceful, healthy recessionista!

Thanks Green Bean - apparently, Bryan is the real healthy recessionista. I was about to buy a whole new blender….
