This weekend, we went to the brand spanking new Plant Cafe on Embarcadero (Pier 3) and it is quite possibly the best place on earth. Its like the Plant Cafe on Chestnut only grown-up - complete with an ocean view, fun cocktails and a full wine list.
Bryan and I tried a few different cocktails including the Urge (some blend of fresh berries, sage and vodka) and Laguna Madre (blend of pineapple, tequila and other fun things - can’t remember!!).
For appetizers, we tried the crunchy bruschetta with fresh heirloom tomato wedges and mozzarella on slices of toasted bread. We were both curious about the Tempeh dish - tempeh with sweet potato mash, some amazing garlicy green spread and green beans - and thought it was by far the BEST vegetarian dish we have both ever had. Seriously. We also ordered the margherita pizza - pretty tasty, not super special.
Under the delusion that we deserved something sweet for eating healthy, we both indulged in dessert. We ordered the Bushberry Financier (funniest name for dessert ever!) and it was like an almond short cake topped with berry juice and fresh blueberries and creme fraiche. Pretty tasty stuff. The table next to us was having the chocolate pot de creme (tofu and chocolate combined and served with cookies and fruit) which was what originally caught my eye - but our very nice waitress told us that the Bushberry was much better - I don’t know though since they seemed to lick their pot de creme clean.
All in all, I would say this place is pretty AMAZING. I have always been a fan of Plant Cafe Jr. on Chestnut St and happy that we now have a place to get our healthy fix with a side of cocktails. The only downside was that service is super slow - not that we were in any rush - but man, we had to wait. I blame it on the fact that they have to solar cook everything - that, or they are just new and still learning the menu.
