I’m a skeptic when it comes to dairy-free ice creams. In fact, I believe the first time I have ever actually enjoyed a dairy free ice cream was when I tried Luna & Larry’s Coconut Bliss. Aside from coconut milk based ice creams, I’ve just never found another dairy free ice cream that was truly satisfying. Most soy based ice creams taste a little off to me and almost just aren’t worth eating…well, almost. :)
The other day I was browsing the ice cream section at Whole Foods and stumbled upon Organic Nectars Raw Agave Gelato. Sounded interesting so I kept reading. Organic Nectars’ ice creams are made with cashew milk and are free of cane sugar, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, gluten and GMOs. Sounded awesome, but how would it taste? I decided to try both the Mint Chocolate and the Cherry Chocolate.

I LOVE mint chocolate ice cream - its always been my favorite - so of course, I was a little scared to try a dairy-free version. But I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised - the Mint Chocolate was delicious, creamy, and best of all it is only 150 calories per serving. After trying the Mint Chocolate, I was convinced that the Cherry Chocolate wouldn’t be half as satisfying. And boy was I wrong!!! I’m not a cherry in my ice cream kind of girl. In fact, besides strawberries, I usually prefer fruit somewhere far away from my ice cream. Its usually a chocolate, vanilla and mint only territory. Not sure what possessed me to even purchase the Cherry Chocolate flavor but so glad I did. It was even better than the Mint Chocolate (and for me, that’s a hard thing to compare). It is subtle, not overly sweet, has the right amount of dark chocolate swirl and tastes just like regular ice cream. So addicted!
Organic Nectars’ 100% raw, organic agave gelatos come in 6 flavors: Cherry Chocolate, Chocolate, Hazelnut, Mint Chocolate, Pistachio, and Vanilla.
Give this guiltless pleasure a try!
